How to make multilingual site

The theme is ready for translation, however, it does not have the multilingual feature.

It can be done wth the help of the translation plugin, e.g:

The translation within Polylang is not automatic, you simply create a new page or copy the existing one and replace the content in another language.

The Ronneby theme is fully compatible with the WPML and we are in touch with WPML developers to fix any possible issue.

Detailed WPML documentation and guidance on how to translate the site you can find here.

How to translate your site with WPML

WPML is a popular plugin that makes your site multilingual and is fully compatible with Ronneby. The plugin translates your posts, pages, and other content, including text from the theme.

How to install and setup WPML

Once you purchase WPML, go to the downloads area in your WPML account, get the OTGS Installer plugin, and install it on your WordPress site. This plugin helps you install necessary WPML components. The most important to get started are:

  • WPML Multilingual CMS
  • WPML String Translation

After installing and activating WPML, go to WPML > Setup to configure the plugin on your site.

Translate content with WPML

To translate content, go to WPML > Translation Management. On this page, you can find all content on your site, like:

  • Posts
  • Pages
  • Portfolios
  • Galleries
  • Widgets
  • Products (if you have WooCommerce, too)

Select as many items as you want, choose between manual or automatic translation, and send for translation.

Translate texts from themes and plugins

Usually, you need to translate some texts (strings) coming from your themes and plugins. These texts are separate from main content like posts and pages. To translate such texts, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit your pages with untranslated texts in a secondary language. This way, WPML automatically detects untranslated strings.
  2. Go to WPML > Translation Management and scroll down to the Other Texts (Strings) section.
  3. Use the All sources > Frontend (viewed) filter, select all strings that appear, and send them for translation.

Enable translation for custom fields, post types, and taxonomies

Most content types are translatable by default when using WPML-compatible themes. But sometimes, you may need to manually make some custom content translatable.

If you’re using the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin with Ronneby, learn how to translate custom ACF fields with WPML

For other custom types, follow these steps:

  1. Go to WPML > Settings and scroll to the sections Custom Fields Translation, Post Types Translation, or Taxonomies Translation.
  2. Find the content type you want to translate and set it to one of the translation options.

Review translated content

You can review and edit translated content by going to WPML > Translations.

From there, you can see what translations look like on your site’s frontend and then edit them via WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor.
